Skills Development Coordinator, ‘Steps in the Right Direction’
‘Steps in the Right Direction’ will offer disadvantaged young people (16+) and adults in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin the opportunity to gain specific skills and knowledge which will enable them to pursue a career or further training in the equine world. Based at the Cavalier Centre, Much Wenlock, participants will undertake a programme which combines class room and hands on practical activity including stable management, field and site maintenance, caring for horses, feeding, grooming, tacking up and preparing them for Riding for the Disabled sessions. In addition to equine specific skills, participants will be supported to develop confidence and transferable skills essential to employability, such as accountability, time management, teamwork and supporting others. Participants will be required to take an active part in community sessions, working with other volunteers to help disabled people to ride or to carriage drive.
The Skills Development Coordinator will be responsible for providing one to one support to participants, encouraging learning and full engagement. They will monitor and report on participants’ progress and provide a final evaluation of the programme.
The Cavalier Centre is a fully accessible purpose built, state of the art equestrian facility and home to Perry Riding for the Disabled
